Why do I need a bridge?
You may need a bridge when you have a gap or are missing a tooth. Because your other teeth can start to shift or move into the open space, your bone density and smile can start to change. The loss of bone can cause your facial structure to shrink and even give your face a “sunken” look. Furthermore, when you are missing a tooth, it can cause stress on the other teeth around the area. And, when a tooth is missing, you have a higher chance of tooth decay and gum disease. By adding a bridge, and filling that space, you can help alleviate some of the negative effects of missing a tooth.
What can I expect when I come in for a Dental Bridge?
First, you will come in for an exam. Once you are here at Smiles of Memorial, Dr. Viet Tran will prepare your teeth for the bridge. With our state-of- the-art cosmetic imaging system, we will take an image and an impression of the area. We will place a temporary bridge and send your impression to a lab to create your bridge. Once the permanent bridge is ready, Dr. Viet Tran will fit, adjust and cement the bridge to the prepared teeth.
At Smiles of Memorial, we custom make our bridges of the same high-quality materials as our crowns. A bridge is then secured on both sides of the gap with crowns, producing a return to chewing function, comfort, and a full smile.
