Prevent tooth decay - the easy way!
What are Dental Sealants?
Dental Sealants are a special coating that is usually placed on the chewing surfaces of the back molars. This coating helps protect the deep pits where food can get trapped – causing cavities. Basically, dental sealants create a barrier between decay-causing bacteria and the tooth’s surface and are used to protect teeth from cavities.
Sealants are usually used for young children and teens – or people who are highly prone to cavities. When the coating is applied, the resin dries into a hard, plastic-like material in a matter of seconds. Sometimes we use a bright light to cure the sealant material. Sealants are invisible and won’t feel any different than the surfaces of your natural teeth. When you come in for your cleaning at Smiles of Memorial, we apply the coating, and offer recommendations for changes in at-home care to improve your overall oral health.
