Bonding and Contouring

The smile of your dreams is just one dental appointment away. Bonding and contouring allow patients to see a dramatic change in the appearance of their smile in one short appointment. Dr. Dernick and his team at Smiles of Memorial are committed to helping you achieve your best smile with this simple, time and cost-effective procedure.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a plastic-like bonding material, called a composite resin, and is used to lengthen, restore, widen, or whiten teeth. For example, to restore a broken tooth, Dr. Dernick and his team may opt for a dental bonding restoration. To complete this, the team will place the composite resin material on the natural tooth to form the desired tooth. Next, the composite resin is bonded to the tooth with a special blue light. The material is strong and is designed to match the color of your natural tooth.

What is Dental Contouring?

Dental Contouring often works in conjunction with dental bonding. During the contouring process, Dr. Dernick and his team can reduce the width and height of teeth to match the size of the other teeth in your smile. This is done by shaving away the outer layer of the tooth, called the enamel. This layer does not contain any nerve endings, and thus you will not feel any pain and do not need sleep medication.

Dental Bonding and Contouring

If some of your teeth appear out of place because they are shorter or longer than others, a dental bonding and contouring procedure may be right for you. In just one appointment, Dr. Derncik and his Smiles of Memorial team in Houston, Texas can lengthen and shrink the size of your teeth and gums to give your smile a uniform and straight appearance.
